Oh...The Paperwork!

When someone is a physical or mental health care provider, whether they are a dentist, a medical doctor, a psychologist or therapist, there are procedures that health care providers must submit to, especially if the health care provider want to be reimbursed by insurance.  It's a requirement for anyone who is a health care provider and is required to be posted in the office of the health care provider.

Please read below:
The NPI Registry Public Search is a free directory of all active National Provider Identifier (NPI) records. Healthcare providers acquire their unique 10-digit NPIs to identify themselves in a standard way throughout their industry.
Individuals or organizations apply for NPIs through the CMS National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES). After we supply an NPI, we publish the parts of the NPI record that have public relevance, including the provider's name, specialty (taxonomy) and practice address.
CMS provides this service based on federal law (45 CFR Part 162). We also supply this directory in a full download, or through an Application Programming Interface (API).

For example, I will search for the last name Smith in Pennsylvania with the taxonomy description, or field, a person is practicing.  For example, psychologist would be a taxonomy description.

Some of the results below are as pictured below.

This numbering system is used to generate a bill, along with the appropriate CPT code so that a professional can generate bills to send to patients' insurance companies.

In order to get an NPI number, a person MUST be licensed.  There must also be a street address, meaning a physical location, associated with the professional.  Or, the person who is working underneath another professional, such as a psychology trainee, the person would work under the supervisor's license number, but would have his/her own NPI number as a trainee or associate.

Try to do a search for Umar Johnson for each name variant you know.  What are the results?

Don't worry, I'll wait.

As far as we know, Umar Johnson does not have a physical location where he does private practice.  Nor does Umar Johnson have a license.  Therefore, Umar Johnson does not have an NPI number.  An NPI number, along with an EIN number and a CPT code, to indicate the treatment the provider render to a patient/client, allows a provider to bill insurance, or Medicaid/Medicare, for payment.

Umar Johnson could make WAY more money getting paid through insurance and/or through Medicaid/Medicare.  But, Umar Johnson only want to get paid for his services via Paypal.

Why?
