Getting Buildings Inspected...

The tomfoolery of Umar Johnson will take one to places that one has never been before, so here I am, delving into new territory of contractors, inspectors, and construction.

I'll do the best I can to explain what I've learned about the inspection, development and financing of a building, using the city of Chicago as my guide.

Please, anyone who has real knowledge of these matters, weigh in and comment, or even correct me if I have any of the facts wrong, or even in the wrong order.  After all, everyone is learning all the time.  Thank you in advance for your knowledge and wisdom.

So, as I understand it, if someone wants to buy a building, say in Chicago, one has to take several steps:

  1. Find a building
  2. Get a realtor (meaning an actual realtor) to walk the potential buyer through the building
  3. The potential buyer needs to show that they can afford to buy the building, including credit and financing.
  4. Potential buyers have to submit to a background check.  NOTE:  People on watch lists, on Amber alert lists, registered pedophiles, etc. cannot be considered
  5. Past inspections, which are on file, have to be viewed.  There are fees associated with pulling those records
  6. Potential buyers have to be able to present a business plan and a development plan
  7. Inspections have to be conducted.  A city usually has its own contractors for this purpose.

Okay, so the realtor, who may or may not be a realtor, showed Umar Johnson a property on Christmas Day, which is highly questionable.

I don't know Umar Johnson's credit history, but it seems to me that someone with back child support, tax liens, and whose only funding source is donations, through GoFundMe and mail-in, will not qualify for financing.

Umar Johnson himself recently alluded to having issues with domestic violence with the mother of his 6-year-old daughter, so one wonders what would appear on an Umar Johnson background check.

As to a business and development plan, well, the donors have never seen a business plan, or a curriculum outline, or anything in writing in reference to Umar Johnson's school.

And, shout outs for "homeboy" contractors won't do -- no disrespect to homeboy contractors intended.

It stands to reason that most major cities operate in a similar fashion when it comes to buying buildings, particularly city buildings.

Schools are city buildings.

Make if this what you will.
