It Doesn't Pass the Smell Test...

Well, now, I really am not sure what to say here.  I need to take a moment....

It seems that a gentleman by the name of Michael Harriot who writes for the Root found verification of Umar Johnson's doctor of psychology degree.

That's very nice and it seems to put a tidy wrapping and bow on things regarding the legitimacy of Umar Johnson's degree, doesn't it?

Well, at least it sure looks that way.

No disrespect is intended toward Michael Harriot or the Root.  But you know...that verification raised more questions in my mind...you know, kicked off my spidey senses if you will.  I have some questions.

Question One

If it were so easy for Michael Harriot to find legitimate proof of Umar Johnson's degree, then why didn't Umar do this himself a long time ago?

If Umar had done this himself and showed proof on his website(s) or on a video, then there wouldn't be any questions about his legitimacy.  That would have shut everyone up.  But he didn't.  Why?

Question Two

Why is the dissertation of Umar R. Abdullah-Johnson is not available for anyone to read?  Typically, dissertations are submitted to ProQuest.  ProQuest has many databases, including one for theses and dissertations.  One can go to any library and find someone's dissertation through ProQuest, which is web-based.  The dissertation of Umar R. Abdullah-Johnson was submitted and seemingly accepted in 2012.  It is now 2017.  It doesn't take 5 years for ProQuest to digitize a dissertation and make it available for folks who might want to read it.  So what's the issue?

Question Three

There is chatter that there could be another person by the name of Umar Rashad Abdullah-Johnson.  This person is white and an Arabian.  So do we even know that the person for whom the degree verification was found is the same "Umar Johnson" we see all over the Internet?

Question Four

Why hasn't Umar Johnson physically produced a document showing that he has the degree(s) he says he has?  Pictures, commencement programs, and other items are NOT proof of anything.

Question Five

There is an Umar Johnson or an Umar Abdullah-Johnson, who has claimed to be a doctor in 2006, possibly in 2008 and in 2010.  However, he has claimed to have earned a doctorate in 2012.  How could this be?  Wouldn't that be fraudulent or, in the instance of the court case, perjury?

Question Six

If I were Umar Johnson, who had a legitimate doctorate degree, and there were people calling me fraudulent, making Facebook pages and Twitter accounts calling me fraudulent, and people were writing essays accusing me of fraud, I would be, at minimum, getting an attorney to make those people cease and desist.  Has Umar done this?  And if not, why not?

Now, that I've gotten that out of the way, I have some more comments, which are all my personal opinion based on my observation of Umar Johnson's own words and behavior:

  • Umar Johnson still hasn't shown any proof or documentation of what he's done with the GoFundMe donation money.
  • Umar Johnson has shown no documented evidence that he is attempting to start/build/create a school.
  • Umar Johnson doesn't demonstrate the temperament or behavior of a psychologist, a clinical psychologist, a therapist or a child therapist.  This is the same Umar Johnson who called people maggots, pigs, THOTS, haters, coons, dusty, etc., is a therapist?  I, personally, don't think so.
  • Umar Johnson has demonstrated misogyny in his actions toward women, as most of the name calling he's meted out was toward women, i.e. Khym Ringgold and Chantall Beaty.
  • Umar Johnson has denigrated gay and lesbian folk.  I mean, like it or not, gay folk are here.
  • Umar Johnson, even if he where a legitimate psychologist or therapist, would have been called up on his license based on his clearly unethical behavior.

I'm very sorry, Mr. Harriot and the Root, but this story doesn't pass the smell test.  I'm just waiting for another shoe to drop.

  1. You covered All bases from A-Z! I've never seen such a blatant fraud go all out to cover his lies & schemes the way Umar Johnson does. This "writer" should be ashamed for caving into this shyster, Umar!

    1. I was so very sorry to see that article on the Root. I don't intend to be disrespectful, but neither the Root or Roland Martin asked the CRITICAL questions that need to be asked of Umar Johnson. It's very frustrating to see this.
