However, I have some questions and observations on the content of this particular post.

I have been given the authority to speak on behalf of the Ross-Tubman families on this blog. Of course, you may know this family as the family who produced our great Queen Warrior, Our Queen Mother, Araminta Ross, known to most of us as Harriet Tubman.

Mrs. Patricia Ross Hawkins, a great-great-great grandniece of Queen Warrior Harriet Tubman, recently saw a video of Umar Johnson at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Center.
She and the Ross-Tubman family want the readers of this blog to know the following:
- Umar Johnson doesn't know what he is talking about. The facility is in Church Creek, Maryland and not in Bucktown, Maryland.
- Umar Johnson doesn't seem to realize that the Ross family from Dorchester County, Maryland, spent many, many years lobbying state and federal officials to get the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Center. The family also had support from friends like the late researcher John Creighton; the late Evelyn Townsend; the late historian, Dr. Kay N. Elvey Gabriel; Vincent deForest of the National Park Service; and Louis Fields, CEO of BBH Tours. Mrs. Ross Hawkins, side-by-side with friends, family and supporters, had to tell the story of Harriet Tubman time, and time, and time again to various congressmen, senators, and many others. She is a math interventionist and a disabled veteran. It took her, the Ross family and Ross family friends more than 15 years to get this done. AND THEY GOT IT DONE!
- Remember, the facility in Church Creek, Maryland is a visitor's center. Ground has been broken near Blackwater Refuge, in Dorchester County, Maryland, for a national park in honor of Harriet Tubman. Land has also been designated in upstate New York for the Harriet Tubman National Park. It takes a lot of work and dedication to get a piece of land designated to be a national park. Patricia Ross Hawkins, the Ross family. friends and many supporters named in point number two worked extremely hard in getting this accomplished. They did this in both Maryland and New York, for our Warrior Queen, Araminta Ross/Harriet Tubman. Keep in mind that both the visitor center, and two nationals parks that will be created, are the only facility of this nature, and public parks in the United States named for a woman. The legislation to do so was signed by then-President Barack Obama with Mrs. Patricia Ross Hawkins standing over his shoulder.
- Who is Umar Johnson to criticize the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Center? Wouldn't he then, by extension, be criticizing Harriet Tubman's family, AND potentially his family, as he has tacitly claimed that he could be related to Harriet Tubman?
- Umar Johnson clearly doesn't know the histories of the Bailey (Douglass), Ross, and Tubman families, which, it seems, further proves that he isn't related to the Bailey (Douglass) family. If he were, he would realize that the relationships between the Bailey (Douglass), Ross, and Tubman families are longstanding and interconnected, with marriages over the years between the families. Harriet Tubman even led at least one Bailey (Douglass), not Frederick, out of slavery.
- Mrs. Patricia Ross Hawkins says that Umar Johnson has no credibility. He speaks well and put on a good show but he is not believable. That is a direct quote.
- The Ross-Tubman family, along with other prominent families on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, want it known that they do not believe that Umar Johnson has validity. For example, he went to the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Center just before it closed, claiming that he didn't know the time changed due to Daylight Savings. His timing is questionable because, as it was pointed out by Mrs. Hawkins, anyone who has a cell phone, a tablet, a laptop or other electronic device would know when time changes due to Daylight Savings.

However, I have some questions and observations on the content of this particular post.
- Why in the world couldn't Umar simply visit the site, take some pictures, if allowed, and go about his business?
- Why make a video about it, especially if only to be critical and negative? In my view, it is Umar's narcissism that made him feel so compelled to make the video. Umar just had to do make a video, almost like he wanted to rub the family's nose in the fact that he was there.
- I believe, based on my knowledge of the Bailey family of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, that Umar Johnson is not particularly welcome there.

ReplyDeleteI can't see how I am misrepresenting Umar Johnson or lying on Umar Johnson when I'm using his own words. Further, I got the authority to speak on this matter from the Ross-Tubman family. I mostly go by what UMAR said out of his own mouth and using the words HE put out in public. Lastly, I am entitled to have an opinion and express it about a public figure as long as I am not lying, which I'm not.

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely hilarious for this woman to continue to make idle threats on behalf of Umar Johnson. I am so sick of this so called "alpha male" hiding behind a woman's skirt to do his bidding for him. If he is going to continue lies, people can tell the TRUTH about him. He is nothing more than a spineless coward that goes around criticizing others and doesn't even follow through with the advice he gives to others. The public is never going to rest until we get full disclosure on what happened to that one million dollars that he received in donations. I certainly hope (Anne) that he is actually paying you for this damage control crusade he has you on....because every time I get on youtube there is more and more people putting up pages and blogs that are exposing this man for who he truly is, so you have your work cut out for you.
