Narcissism 202

Now, this just has to be the ultimate in narcissism....I won't even put down any words at this point. Just take a moment to study this picture...

From:  https://twitter.com/DrUmarJohnson/status/759514712879038464

Now, from the Facebook page of Dr. Umar Ifatunde, which it seems he quickly removed.  But still...just look at it...

Do you see what I see?

Please tell me you see what I see...

*Taking a deep breath*

Do you see that Umar has implied that he is a Black messiah on at least two occasions?

*Taking another deep breath*

Now, I'm ready to put down some words.

Clearly, Umar is referring to the Counter Intelligence Program, commonly called COINTELPRO, instituted by the infamous J. Edgar Hoover who was then the head of the FBI.  The intention of COINTELPRO:
The purpose of this new counterintelligence endeavor is to expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or OTHERWISE NEUTRALIZE [emphasis added] the activities of black nationalist hate-type organizations and groupings, their leadership, spokesmen, membership and supporter, and to counter their propensity for violence and civil disorder.
From:  COINTELPRO

One of the goals of COINTELPRO was to prevent the rise of a Black "messiah."  Hoover believed that potential "messiahs" at the beginning COINTELPRO, were:

Martin Luther King, Jr.
Stokely Carmichael
Elijah Muhammad

(Malcolm X had already transitioned by this time.)

1.  What about Umar and his activities put him on the level of any of the people named above, and therefore, make him a "messiah?"

All I see is a man, who cannot definitively prove that he has the degrees he claims he has, delivering lectures that are mostly regurgitations of Jawaanza Kunjufu, Amos Wilson, Na'im Akbar and others; and collecting money for a nonexistent school without the benefit of a plan, a committee, a curriculum, or transparency.  The FBI doesn't need to work to discredit him.  Why would they bother?  He's doing a wonderful job of discrediting himself.

 2.  What about Umar would cause Tarence Bailey to "expose" him on behalf of a COINTELPRO-type scheme?

Tarence Bailey as a representative of his family who asked Umar, on behalf of his family, to stop lying about being a member of his family.  Lying about being a member of a family he isn't actually a member of "exposes" Umar as a liar.  But Tarence Bailey didn't do that.  The FBI didn't do that.  Umar did that.

3.  What about Umar makes anyone think he is some sort of messianic figure, let alone a messianic figure that anyone, let alone the FBI, would need to disrupt, misdirect or neutralize?  Let's see..
  • A man who lied about abstaining from sex
  • A man who is collecting money for a non-existent school from people with no documented plan
  • A man who lied about being a member of a particular family
  • A man who can't prove his educational credentials
  • A man who got a PayPal account frozen
  • A man who insults and denigrates the very people who are supporting him
If you ask me, Umar has managed to clown the Black/Pan-African movement to the nth degree!

   Homey don't play that!

 *Taking yet another deep breath*

J. Edgar Hoover's Counterintelligence Program (COINTELPRO) is no joke.  It was real.  It was sinister.  It affected people's lives.  It affected Black people so adversely that we are still recovering from the results, nearly 50 years later.  COINTELPRO is not to be played with or used as an excuse for anyone's fuckery.

Umar is no one's "messiah."  And the fact that he's attempting to position himself as such only further proves his narcissism.

Please consider the short list below of the names of people who suffered as a result of the FBI's COINTELPRO:

H Rap Brown
Angela Davis
Fred Hampton
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Huey Newton
Geronimo Pratt
Assata Shakur
Malcolm X

Is there anything about Umar that reminds you of any of the people named above?

I recall meeting a gentleman named Dhoruba bin Wahad.   Mr. bin Wahad, born Richard Earl Moore, was a Black Panther and a co-founder of Black Liberation Army (BLA).  He learned that police in his community were taking bribes to look the other way while drugs were being brought into his community via a club in the Bronx, New York, where Mr. bin Wahad lived.  He and other BLA members were attempting to stop the flow of drugs into his community through the club.

By the way, this is what a real man who cares about his community and his people does.

*BIG RESPECTS TO HIM*

Meanwhile, Officers Thomas Curry and Nicholas Binetti were shot outside of the home of the Manhattan district attorney, whom they were guarding.  Mr. bin Wahad was charged with robbing a social club in the South Bronx.  The club was a known place for drugs and police bribery.  Then, he was charged with attempted murder of the two police officers.

Two days later, New York police officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini were shot and killed outside a housing project in Harlem.  Dhoruba bin Wahad was charged with murders.

There was a trial that resulted in a hung jury.  A second trial was declared a mistrial.  Mr. bin Wahad was found guilty at the third trial and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.  He spent 19 years in prison.  While in prison, Mr. bin Wahad learned of COINTELPRO's corrupt activities and filed a lawsuit against the FBI and the New York police department.

The result of Mr. bin Wahad's lawsuit was that over 300,000 pages of COINTELPRO-related documents were released, some of which contained information that could have helped Mr. bin Wahad's defense.  He appealed his conviction and, in 1990, the conviction was overturned.

*Taking yet another deep breath*

Now, bear with me.  What Mr. bin Wahad and others, whose names we know, and whose names we may not know, endured as a result of COINTELPRO is so evil and sinister that I believe it is absolutely and completely disrespectful, not to mention downright insulting, for Umar to invoke COINTELPRO to try to justify his nonsense.

Umar needs to have a stadium of seats with that mess!

Do y'all feel me?  Good.

*EXHALE*
