African-American Boarding Schools -- Laurinburg Institute

Just a bit of FYI...

According to HBCUmoney.com, there are four remaining African-American boarding schools left in the United States.  One is Laurinburg Institute in Scotland County, North Carolina.  Let's use the tuition plans at Laurinburg Institute as an example of what I want to show.

Tuition at Laurinburg Institute is as follows:

Plan A - One annual payment at the beginning of the school year
Entrance Tuition
$10,000.00
Housing
$3,000.00
Food Service
$1,800.00
*Initial Supply Deposit
$200.00
Total Plan A
$15,000.00

So that means the parents of a child would have to have all $15,000 up front at the beginning of the school year.

Plan B - Two Semi-Annual payments: One at the beginning of each semester
Entrance Tuition
$10,000.00
Housing
$3,000.00
Food Service
$1,800.00
Carrying Cost
$1,097.00
*Initial Supply Deposit
$200.00
Total Plan B
$16,097.00

So, this means that the parents of a child would have to come up with $8,048.50 in a lump sum twice a year.

Plan C - Nine monthly payments: Once each school month
Entrance Tuition
$10,000.00
Housing
$3,000.00
Food Service
$1,800.00
Carrying Cost
$1,600.00
*Initial Supply Deposit
$200.00
Total Plan C
$16,600.00

So, this means that the parents of a child would have to come up with $1,844.44 every month.

What parent from the 'hood can afford to pay this kind of tuition money?

So a school like Laurinburg Institute would be the 'competition' for FDMG.  Further, Laurinburg Institute is already established with consistent donors, established curricula, accreditation, and facilities in place.  Most importantly, look at the tuition plans and the money folks would have to come up with to send their child to a school like Laurinburg Institute.

What kind of tuition would FDMG have to charge in order to sustain it?  What I mean is, how is FDMG going to keep the lights and water on, feed people, have extra-curricular activities, pay staff, supply a library, buy equipment, have insurance to cover itself if someone on campus gets injured, etc.

Oh yeah, that would require having a business plan...which Umar doesn't have.

So to all I have to say to Umar is ...
