Narcissism 201

One of the symptoms of a person who has traits of a narcissist is a need to believe that they are "special" and to associate themselves with others who are famous and accomplished.  One way to associate oneself with someone famous or accomplished is to give oneself honorific titles.

For instance, in 2005, Umar Abdullah-Johnson (note the difference in name), wrote a letter in which he tendered his resignation as the Minister of Education from the Philadelphia chapter of the UNIA. Notice that he signed the letter the Modern Day Malcolm X.

Of course, Umar calls himself a doctor, although there is no definitive proof of this.

Further, there are many examples of Umar Johnson coining himself the Prince of Pan-Africanism (Afrikanism) or P.O.P.A., another honorific title that has no real meaning but may intend to impress.

Umar also calls himself Ifatunde. Ifatunde means "Ifa (God) returns."  I know Ifa to be a Yoruba spiritual system but I'm not sure why Umar would give himself, or be given the name Ifatunde.  And I have never seen or heard an account of why Umar has been named as such.  It seems to me to be yet another narcissistic honorific without much explanation of how he got the name or why it is significant that he has such a name.

I mean, seriously, naming yourself or being named God?  Who would have the authority to do this?

At some point, he has billed himself the new Marcus Garvey in yet another attempt to associate himself with someone whose legacy is revered and respected.

And, just in case you're not sure, you can visit his website at www.drumarjohnson.com, to be reminded that he has the spirit of Marcus Garvey, although it hasn't been determined who told him this or how he knows this; and his behavior seems to contradict this.

Of course, he also wants you to know that he has the blood of Frederick Douglass, although, this has never been proven and the Bailey/Douglass family has said that he has no blood relationship to them

So for all of these grandiose monikers Umar has given himself, I say...
However, I encourage people to research, read and study.  For instance, here is another article, from the website called Alternative Considerations of Jonestown & Peoples Temple to read and consider.

The third characteristic of the narcissist has to do with an excess of self-love that creates a sense of being special compared to others and needing to be around others who are special and talented as well. They are destined for greatness, they believe, and as such, they should only be around other extraordinary people. This may have been one of the things that drove [Jim] Jones to leave Ukiah and start working with and being seen around powerful politicians in the San Francisco area. Jones saw himself as a celebrity and an important figure in the future of the world (emphasis mine). That was part of the reason he founded Peoples Temple: to show Christians and liberal activists a way to make a great or even a perfect life and social order on Earth and not have to wait to die for heaven to come.
I urge you to do your own thinking, comparing, and drawing your own conclusions.

    2. A person can only be accused of being a 'hater' if they are stating things that are untrue. If you KNOW that what the author here states is untrue, then please share that with us.
