Umar is NOT a doctor!?!?
I am so through, y'all. Is this man a doctor? Really?
If you go onto Facebook and look up Dr. Umar Ifatunde, you will see that Umar has a video of himself consulting with parents about their children.
If he is a doctor, one would think that he would be familiar with HIPAA.
What is HIPAA?
HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. According to the Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery and Medical Tests, 2nd edition, the purpose of HIPAA was prompted by the need to ensure privacy and protection of personal records and data in an environment of electronic medical records and third party insurance payers. This act, of course has to do with patient confidentiality.Patient Confidentiality
Patient confidentiality means that personal and medical information given to a health care provider will not be disclosed to others unless the individual (or his/her parent or guardian) gives specific permission for such release. One question, please. Did the parents sign papers agreeing to be recorded discussing their children and having conversations posted on a social media platform like Facebook?
Okay, someone help me on this one, because I'm not a doctor or a lawyer. Umar has a video of himself on Facebook, a social media platform, giving parents information and recommendations for their children. If he his a doctor, a health care provider, or a mental health professional, wouldn't this be illegal?
If my suspicions, and I admit at this point, these are only suspicions, either Umar is breaking the law, OR he is not a doctor, health care provider, or mental health professional.
If this is indeed illegal, couldn't he be reported to the state?
If he's not a doctor, then he's been lying to the people, right?
Perhaps he should have prefaced this or noted somewhere that consent was given by the participants.
Whatever the case is, it doesn't seem right to do this, in my opinion.
Just saying...
