The Dunning-Kruger Effect

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities.  It was first described by the psychologists David Dunning and Just Kruger in 1999. The most glaring example of this is our current President. One of the symptoms of a person who has traits of a narcissist is a need to believe that they are "special" and to associate themselves with others who are famous and accomplished.  One way to associate oneself with someone famous or accomplished is to give oneself honorific titles. For instance, in 2005, Umar Abdullah-Johnson (note the difference in name), wrote a letter in which he tendered his resignation as the Minister of Education from the Philadelphia chapter of the UNIA.
