(ThyBlackMan.com) I noticed over this past year that a lot of people withing the conscious community get into petty arguments over things that aren't important, talking down on celebrities who don't speak out on black issues, colorism, sexism and it deeply bothers me.

Intro:  Here are my personal issues that I have with the conscious community.

Sexism - It's no secret that the most prominent voices in our community are strong and intelligent black men like Boyce Watkins and Cornel West, but for some reason when it intellectual sistas speak out out about black issues, a lot of guys within the conscious community will go on social media and the internet to try to silence them by engaging in slander, nasty comments about their hair, face, etc. I've seen this myself and it's egregious.

Colorism - There are a lot (not all) of people in the conscious community are the first in line to attach a light brown skinned non-biracial person by saying stuff like their skin at "dark" enough or they don't have enough melanin enough and all this other bullshit and it really pisses me off.

Name - A lot of people withing the conscious community often get into meaningless spats on social media about what they should be calling themselves whether its Hebrew, Nubian, Moor, etc.  And I be thinking, "It shouldn't even matter what we're called" and "Why in the hell are they so mentally occupied with what they should be called?"

Lack of Concern for Black Women Who Have Been Harmed Or Killed - I also noticed that a lot of guys within the conscious community seem to be very reactive when a black man gets killed by bigots outside the community.  But they don't get very reactive when a black woman gets harmed by bigots outside the community and it personally bothers me.  That is an example of the blatant hypocrisy that exists within the conscious community.

One Sided Views On Certain Topics - I also noticed that a lot of people withing the conscious community give narrow minded one sided views.  For example, when the issue of homosexuality is addressed, they're quick to point out that young black boys are becoming gay only because of gmo foods and the media, but what they refuse to even acknowledge or even say the bigger reasons why a lot of young black boys are becoming more homosexualized is that a lot of young black boys grow up without a strong father in the home and a lot of them where molested/raped when they were younger.

Undercover Feminists - There are some women within the conscious community that are undercover feminists.  These undercover black feminists on social media will immediately attack anyone that doesn't align themselves with their agenda and I have seen this up-close.

Self-Hate - There's also some people withing the conscious community that doesn't really support their community's agendas, they support other people's agendas.  And they too have the mental illness of self-hate that is rampant within our community.

The Conclusion - The Conscious Community should improve their standing by letting go of petty arguments and ignorance and embrace accepting the fact that we're all different.

  1. They attack me all the time for being light-skinned. That is why I say this so called "conscious movement" is a bunch of b.s. These are people getting together in this idea that darker complexion black people are more superior to anyone else.....sounding just like the oppressor if you ask me.
