Umar Lets ANYTHING Fly Out of His Mouth
Poor students at Philander Smith College. Their school paid for the "privilege" of having Umar Johnson lie to them. Umar Johnson should be ashamed--that is if he had sense enough to be ashamed--of just blatantly lying to these students.
Lie: He was told he'd get a decision on the case within 30 days from the January 8th hearing.
Truth: There is to be a decision by 90 days of the hearing.*
Lie: A masters degree isn't needed to apply to ANY doctoral program.
Truth: Students have a master's degree as part of the qualifications to apply for most doctoral programs.
Lie: Masters degrees are a waste of time, only for those who are academically weak unsure they can make it in a doctoral program have to prove themselves.
Truth: Master's degrees are NOT a waste of time and isn't used to "prove" that a student isn't academically weak.
Lie: "Somebody" (singular) complained to the Board of Psychology. They won't tell him who.
Truth: Several "somebodies" complained to the Pennsylvania Board of Psychology. And the State Board of Psychology isn't required to tell Umar Johnson who complained about him and his nonsense.
Lie: He IS opening a school and whoever said he isn't is lying.
Truth: There will be no school for several reasons including not providing financial documents, not providing a curriculum outline, not providing a business plan, not going through a procedure, not seeking accreditation, and not having the appropriate financial backing.
Lie: Special education law cases are "easy to win."
Truth: No lawyer on the planet would ever devalue their profession like this. Legal representation in all fields is challenging, complex work!
Lie: Special education lawyers help recover damages for students "misdiagnosed" as mentally retarded.
Truth: Virtually all legal claims filed are for inadequate services and not obtaining accommodations for college entrance testing -- not mis-classification of educational disability.
Lie: Special Education lawyers "make a lot of money."
Truth: Virtually all educational lawyers work via non-profit agencies and/or endowment supported entities. The clients who CAN pay will pay big money. Otherwise, services are free or sliding scale. If Umar had ever spoken with or sat in an IEP meeting with any of their law clerks or the actual special education attorney, he'd know that; wouldn't spew such garbage!
Thank you, Anti Afro Svengalis, for pulling a sister's coat on this nonsense. We need to be vigilant on calling out the fraudsters in our communities. If you haven't already, please check the sister, Anti Afro Svengalis on Youtube.
Philander Smith College really dropped the ball on this and did a huge disservice to their students by having Umar Johnson on their campus.
*CORRECTION: Decisions are due within 60 days of the Department of State receives the transcript of the hearing. The Department of State received the transcript on January 24, 2018.
