Umar Cult Member?

D Derell is at it again.  He's proud of himself. He think he's done an outstanding job being a spokesmodel for Umar Johnson.

He continues to say that anyone who hasn't donated to Umar Johnson's never-going-to-exist school shouldn't have anything to say.

Well, Mr. D Derell, I didn't donate and as you can see from this blog, I have plenty to say.  I am a member of the public and Umar Johnson appealed to the public for donations, so I, as a member of the public, have every right to speak

You, or anyone else, can't stop me.

Besides, if you listen to Umar Johnson, he told donors that they have no right to ask any questions about their donation money and what he's doing with it.

Let me be clear, Mr. D Derell.  I'm not against Umar Johnson's stated goal of opening a school.  My contention is that his stated goal and his actual goal aren't the same.

Umar Johnson's Stated Goal -- Opening A School
Umar Johnson's Actual Goal  -- Ripping Off Black People

However, you think that those who are asking questions, those who are demanding answers, those who don't believe Umar Johnson are part of the problem.  But Umar Johnson's lying, bullying, disrepecting, scamming, scheming, and pillaging of our communities isn't part of the problem?

Wow...

It amazes me to no end that some people who have donated don't even think they have the right to ask Umar Johnson questions.

I don't feel like I have the right to ask him about transparency in regards to financial records.
D Derell

Actually, Mr. D Derell, you have every right to ask Umar Johnson about transparency, especially if you've donated.  However, Umar Johnson is going to tell you that he thinks you are too stupid (because "you ain't even got a GED")  to understand a business plan, as he told an audience in Atlanta.

How ironic that you, Mr. D Derell, who claims to have all these degrees, got relegated to the non-GED section in Umar Johnson's mind.  And how ironic is it that you think you deserve to be there.

I'm so sorry to tell you that contacting Umar Johnson by email, phone or certified letter won't get you anywhere with Umar Johnson because he ignores Black people.  Think about it.  If he won't respond to his own father, to esteemed elders in our community or to his donors, why would it matter if anyone did call him, email him or send him a certified letter?  Why would a petition help get the answers that people are looking for?

He doesn't think he owes anyone an explanation.

Umar Johnson has already proven himself a liar on so many occasions, it's hardly worth repeating them all here.  Why anyone would believe a word that falls out of Umar Johnson's mouth is beyond my ability to comprehend.

Besides, he doesn't think he has to answer to you, or to anyone.  Umar Johnson has utter contempt for you.  He thinks you don't matter, outside of the money you've given.

By the way, Mr. D Derell  , you've said that you are a repeat donor.  I'm curious to know if you've so much has gotten a thank you from Umar Johnson.

Further, I'm curious to know why you're so convinced that those of us who criticize Umar Johnson are:
  • Not in Umar Johnson's league, intellectually, to challenge what he's doing
  • Don't have anything better to do in life
  • Are too broke to donate to anything
  • Are spending the money on stuff they shouldn't spend their money on
  • Would rather bankroll white supremacy
Oh, and Mr. Derell, I think that warning my people about a lying, scheming, scamming, fraudulent scumbag like Umar Johnson is a great use of my time.  Thanks for your concern.

Later, Mr. Derell assumes that folks who question Umar Johnson don't have a bank account, never balanced a checkbook, never applied for a loan, or never tried to start a business.

How utterly Umarian of you.

The third and fifth items on the list above is especially ironic, since Umar Johnson has no problem getting money (and other benefits) from single mothers on government aid while on YouTube.

Oh the Umarian irony.

I will confess to one thing, though.  I am encouraging people not to donate to Umar Johnson  because he's name-called people who did donate, he's told donors it's none of their business what he did with the donation money (especially if they donated a low amount of money), he's presented no proof of the credentials he's claimed, he's presented no written documentation to the donors about the school or the donation money, his non-profit status was revoked, he's openly said that he will discriminate against Black women who don't wear their hair in a way that he approves, he's called victims of incest and molestation THOTs with THOT-ish personality disorder, he's repeatedly 'shouted out' Malachi Z. York, a convicted child molester, he's claimed that 10% of Black boys should be murdered because they are 'unreachable.'

All of this information is publicly available, Mr. D Derell.

One question for you, Mr. D Derell.  Are you in a cult?

Ten warning signs of a potentially unsafe group/leader

  1. Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability.
  2. No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry.
  3. No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement.
  4. Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions.
  5. There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil.
  6. Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances.
  7. There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader.
  8. Followers feel they can never be "good enough".
  9. The group/leader is always right.
  10. The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible.

Ten warning signs regarding people involved in/with a potentially unsafe group/leader

  1. Extreme obsessiveness regarding the group/leader resulting in the exclusion of almost every practical consideration.
  2. Individual identity, the group, the leader and/or God as distinct and separate categories of existence become increasingly blurred. Instead, in the follower's mind these identities become substantially and increasingly fused--as that person's involvement with the group/leader continues and deepens.
  3. Whenever the group/leader is criticized or questioned it is characterized as "persecution".
  4. Uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms, cloning of the group/leader in personal behavior.
  5. Dependency upon the group/leader for problem solving, solutions, and definitions without meaningful reflective thought. A seeming inability to think independently or analyze situations without group/leader involvement.
  6. Hyperactivity centered on the group/leader agenda, which seems to supercede any personal goals or individual interests.
  7. A dramatic loss of spontaneity and sense of humor.
  8. Increasing isolation from family and old friends unless they demonstrate an interest in the group/leader.
  9. Anything the group/leader does can be justified no matter how harsh or harmful.
  10. Former followers are at best-considered negative or worse evil and under bad influences. They can not be trusted and personal contact is avoided.

Ten signs of a safe group/leader

  1. A safe group/leader will answer your questions without becoming judgmental and punitive.
  2. A safe group/leader will disclose information such as finances and often offer an independently audited financial statement regarding budget and expenses. Safe groups and leaders will tell you more than you want to know.
  3. A safe group/leader is often democratic, sharing decision making and encouraging accountability and oversight.
  4. A safe group/leader may have disgruntled former followers, but will not vilify, excommunicate and forbid others from associating with them.
  5. A safe group/leader will not have a paper trail of overwhelmingly negative records, books, articles and statements about them.
  6. A safe group/leader will encourage family communication, community interaction and existing friendships and not feel threatened.
  7. A safe group/leader will recognize reasonable boundaries and limitations when dealing with others.
  8. A safe group/leader will encourage critical thinking, individual autonomy and feelings of self-esteem.
  9. A safe group/leader will admit failings and mistakes and accept constructive criticism and advice.
  10. A safe group/leader will not be the only source of knowledge and learning excluding everyone else, but value dialogue and the free exchange of ideas.

Don't be naïve, develop a good BS Detector.

You can protect yourself from unsafe groups and leaders by developing a good BS detector. Check things out, know the facts and examine the evidence. A safe group will be patient with your decision making process. If a group or leader grows angry and anxious just because you want to make an informed and careful decision before joining; beware.

Mr. Derell, I suggest you polish your BS Detector and I truly hope the elder you spoke with will help you.

That's it.  That's all.
