- The person asking for donations either doesn’t give out receipts, or the receipt you receive from them doesn’t have the alleged charity organization’s details on it.
- You can only use specific payment methods: Cash, prepaid cards, money orders, direct wire transfers, money-transfer services, crypto-currencies, and checks written out to the person who contacts you instead of the charity.
- The charity’s website only has a PO Box number or a mobile phone number, and no physical address or land line number.
- You’ve never heard of the charity the scammer promotes anywhere else, and if you look it up online, you can’t find any relevant results.
- The person who asks for donations on behalf of the charity doesn’t have any identification documents they can offer to prove they are who they say they are. If they do have documents they can show you, they feel suspiciously fake.
- A scammer will not accept Credit Card as a payment option because it can be disputed at ANY time. Most scammers will not accept checks either but will accept them with the condition it is made out to their name or made up organization.
