What's Wrong With US?
I don't know how to say this so I'm just going to be tactless and blurt is out.
Something is wrong with us.
Yes...US.
Why do I say this?
Because...
For the life of me, I don't understand why Black people, all over the world, gave Umar Johnson an estimated $2.5 million dollars based on an idea of a school. Umar Johnson has not actually produced a school, or for that matter, anything worthwhile.
BUT...
We hardly give anything to those who are actually doing something productive and constructive.
I'd like to highlight three such people who have actually accomplished starting and/or opening schools and/or education programs.
Marcus Kline
Marcus Kline has two schools, both called Freedom Home Academy. One is in Chicago and one in Atlanta. There was a Freedom Home Academy in Detroit (which is now closed according to Google). Mr. Kline is quite accomplished and actually has operational schools. Yet, we haven't donated to Freedom Home. Why not?
We should be ashamed for not doing more to support this brother |
Why does Umar Johnson get an estimated $2.5 million dollars of our money for doing nothing, yet someone like Marcus Kline has to struggle?
Que Butter
Que Butter is a young man who started a school or educational center in Brooklyn, called XyayX Institute, in which children are learning science, technology, math, engineering and (STEM). There are videos of children learning algebra and science. Que Butter has aspirations to teach the children calculus. He did all of this without the level of support that Umar Johnson received.
To be fair to the young brother, Que Butter doesn't want to be compared to Umar Johnson. And who could blame him? After all, Que Butter actually has a facility with students and the students are learning and having fun.
What has Umar Johnson accomplished? I'll wait.
King Randall
King Randall is a young man, 21 years old, out of Albany, GA. He has started a school in his hometown and has aspirations to open a boarding school in Albany, GA for young men. My understanding is that he's teaching young men about things from like how to change a tire on a car to how to exercise anger management.
This young man, who is actually accomplishing things, doesn't have the level of support that Umar Johnson has. This is a dirty shame.
And, this 21-year-old young man (bless him), has the class and presence of mind to say that he wants people to stop criticizing Umar Johnson because Umar Johnson is an inspiration to him.
OH MY...
It's just a travesty that this young man, who actually appears to know how to get things done, isn't an inspiration to Umar Johnson.
To say it straight with no chaser, there is something wrong with us that we gave a character like Umar Johnson upwards of $2 million dollars for an idea of a school, but we haven't given as much to people all over the country, who actually have real school and learning institutions.
This has to change.
