Romance Scams
Umar Johnson's schemes, scams, lies, and deceptions never end, do they?
There appears to be no bottom to the Umar Johnson barrel. And, we have confirmation of that courtesy of Miss Mary Ann Lorient.
In the video in which Miss Mary Ann talks about speaking with authorities to start an investigation of Umar Johnson, she mentions a woman, who is a single mother of four children.
Umar Johnson, according to Miss Mary Ann, led this woman to believe she was in a committed, romantic relationship with Umar Johnson. During this so-called relationship, Umar Johnson Casanova-ed (yes, it's a made-up word) his way into her life and her bank account. He subsequently took $6,000 of her hard-earned money without permission that she's managed to save over 8 years. Now, I don't give a good goddamn how long it took her to save it. It was her money that she worked for and saved.
What Umar allegedly did to this woman is known as a romance scam.
Romance Scam
We all know what a romance scam is, I'm sure. However, for the sake of being thorough, I will outline what a romance scam is below, from Wikipedia.
A romance scam is a con game involving being deceptive with their romantic intentions towards a victim, gaining the victim's affection, and then using that goodwill to get the victim to send money to the scammer under false pretenses or to commit fraud against the victim. Fraudulent acts may involve access to the victim's money, bank accounts, credit cards, passports, financial services platforms (ex. Cash App or PayPal), e-mail accounts, or national identification numbers (ex. social security numbers); or forcing (by way of the feigned romantic relationship) the victims to commit financial fraud on their behalf.
I don't know, but it seems really strange...
Tricking the Victim
Of course, to pull of a romance scam, the perpetrator needs to trick the victim. The perpetrator will go through the motions of "building a loving relationship" and may even promise that they will be together and be married. This is to gain the trust of the victim so that the victim will share private information about themselves that the perpetrator can use to gain money, access, and so on.
DARVO
What is DARVO?
DARVO is a manipulative tactic used by abusers and wrongdoers to avoid accountability by denying their actions, attacking the accuser, and then portraying themselves as the real victim, shifting blame and confusing the situation to silence the actual victim.
Stages of DARVO
- Deny: The perpetrator denies the abuse or minimizes its severity often using gaslighting to make the victim doubt their own memory or perception of events
- Attack: Instead of addressing the accusation, the abuser shifts focus by attacking the victim's character, motives, or credibility, making them seem unstable or untrustworthy
- Reverse Victim and Offender: The perpetrator claims to be the one harmed, painting themselves as the innocent party and the actual victim as the true aggressor, a tactic that can even involve bringing legal action
Sound familiar? If not, just check out the rant that Umar did against his own daughter in which he blamed her, as a 10-year-old, for not being in her life. DISGUSTING!
Anyways...
When Miss Mary Ann got wind of this situation, she approached Umar Johnson about it. According to what she says, Umar said the victim was somehow wrong because she has four children by four different men and that woman was just mad because Umar didn't pick her to be one of his "wives."
WHAT????
To paraphrase Miss Mary Ann said, what the hell does her baby daddies have to do with the $6,000 Umar took from her without her permission?
Does anyone doubt that there are other victims of romance scams perpetrated by Umar Johnson, perhaps from all over the world? Does anyone doubt that Umar Casanova-ed (there goes that made-up word again) his way into homes, "cookies" (of all colors, shapes, and sizes), bank accounts, and anything else?
AND, most importantly, does anyone doubt that when or if women told their stories, they were victim-shamed and victim-blamed?
This is one of the major reasons why Umar Johnson has been able to continue to run roughshod over our communities for almost 20 years.
When is it going to end?
Umar Johnson has been running his schemes and scams for a long time, the most prominent of which is the FDMG school scam, along with concurrent scams, such as a romance book and a "shockumentary," all of which he has collected donations and payments with no results.
With the grace of the Almighty, Mary Ann Lorient and her 40 co-plaintiffs, along with Lenae Stacks, and others, will be the catalyst to end the cancer in the Black community known as Umar Johnson.
P.S. Isn't interesting that is it mostly the women, not the men (with some notable exceptions), who are fighting the cancerous Umar Johnson?
If Umar Johnson's mouth is moving and sound is coming out, Umar Johnson is lying.
