All in the Family

Well, well, well, look what TrueBlackAnonymous has found!

Below is an old video of Umar Johnson, then called Umar Abdullah-Johnson, advertising a 2010 speaking engagement in New York City.

Umar was advertised as a:

World renowned orator
Having a bachelor's and master's degree-both from Millersville University of Pennsylvania
Nationally certified and expert in school psychology
Radio talk show host

But that's not the interesting part.  The interesting part is that Umar was advertised to be...wait for it...

Grandnephew of Frederick Douglass

Here, out of Umar's own mouth, he claims to be a grandnephew (to to about 20 minutes into the linked video) of Frederick Douglass.

Now, bear with TrueBlackAnonymous as I try to explain my position that Umar Johnson is lying about his relationship to the Bailey family.

There seems to be a video, since taken down, where Umar Abdullah-Johnson seems to somehow associate himself with the Bailey-Casson line of the Bailey family.

Does Umar claim to be a descendant of the Bailey-Casson line?

Of course, in the brochure that Umar displayed on his website, that has since been taken down, shows him as a descendant of George Washington Bailey through his father, Stephen Henry Bailey.

Is Umar a descendant of Stephen Henry Bailey through George Washington Bailey?

Okay...so here's what we have.

1.  Umar is a grandnephew of Frederick Douglass
2.  Umar may be descendant from the Bailey-Casson line of Baileys
3.  Umar is a descendant of Stephen Henry Bailey.

All of these cannot be true.

Why?

I'll attempt to explain based on my research from census records.

Grandnephew of Frederick Douglass

According to the records, Frederick Douglass had two siblings, a brother named Perry Bailey and a sister named Sara(h) Bailey.  In order for Umar Johnson to be a grandnephew of Frederick Douglass, he would have to be a descendant of either Perry Bailey (like Tarence Bailey) or Sara(h) Bailey.  I have no recollection or access to documentation of Umar saying he was descendant of either Perry Bailey, or his sister Sarah Bailey.

Umar has produced no documentation, such as marriage records or census records to show this to be true or untrue.

Bailey-Casson Line

It's a question that Umar Johnson has claimed to be descendant from the Bailey-Casson line.  However, he cannot be a descendant of both Katherine Bailey Casson and a descendant of George Washington Bailey.

Katherine Bailey Casson and George Washington Bailey are brother and sister.  Both are children of Stephen Henry Bailey and Caroline Wilson Bailey.  If Umar Johnson was a descendant of Katherine Bailey Casson, he could not be the descendant of George Washington Bailey--and vice versa.

Umar has produced no documentation, such as marriage records, or census records to prove or disprove a relationship to either Katherine Bailey Casson or George Washington Bailey.

Stephen Henry Bailey

Umar claims he is the descendant of Stephen Henry Bailey and Caroline Wilson Bailey.  Stephen Henry Bailey and Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey were first cousins by virtue of their mothers being sisters.

Umar has claimed that they are also half brothers by virtue of being fathered by the same white man.

Frederick Douglass himself has said, in The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, he wasn't sure who is father was.  So if Frederick Douglass didn't know who is father was, how would Umar Johnson know?

But anyway...

If Umar is indeed a descendant of Stephen Henry Bailey, through George Washington Bailey, then he cannot be a grandnephew of Frederick Douglass.

And no one really knows if Frederick Douglass and Stephen Henry Bailey were brothers.

Umar has produced no documentation, such as marriage records or census records to show any relationship to Stephen Henry Bailey or his son, George Washington Bailey.

So, Umar has seemingly told at least two or three different stories on how he is supposed to be related to the Bailey family.  All of these stories cannot be true.  It would be physically impossible for all of these stories to be true.

So, how about it, Umar Johnson.

What is the real story here?

Is there a real story here?

  1. Good pull finding this grand-nephew claim. This fraud #UmarLiar had freetyled his claims to the Bailey family for years. The real family has made it abundantly clear they do not know this man. And Umar clearly has an obsession with his imaginary friend because he has perverted and distorted sacred family genealogies to forcefully insert himself into a family, a Tribe, in which he has no association, affiliation and membership.

This dude is worse than pathetic.

Keep up the great work documenting the identity theft and identity fraud this man has perpetuated on his imaginary friend.

  2. Thanks, John M. Between Umar claiming to be a member of the Bailey family and all of the somewhat associated grave humping...I don't know what's more pathetic.
