You Gonna Learn...

The text below can serve as a template of a letter that can be written to certain entities if one is concerned about the behavior of Dempsey Spears/D Derell on YouTube as it relates to the people he calls "Spengalis."  "Spengalis" is a term he uses to describe the network of folks who call themselves Anti Fraud Warriors.

Take this text, pictures, links, and other information, shown below, to use in any way you see fit.

This letter serves to express my concern about a mental health provider who receives payments from _____________.  His name is Dempsey Spears and he is a licensed professional counselor.  His license number is 61014 from the state of Texas. His NPI number is 1174653109.

Dempsey Spears has a channel on YouTube on which he calls himself D Derell.  The text that describes the D Derell channel on YouTube is below.

Focus on black mental health and black issues. This show will touch on a lot of issues pertaining to mental health that effects our society in terms of education, socio-economic status, racism, health care, politics and entertainment. The purpose is to educate, process, and give effective analysis.
On this channel, he acts as an advocate for an individual named Umar Johnson who claims he wants to build a school.  As a blogger, who blogs as TrueBlackAnonymous, and is known as Black Anonymous on YouTube, I question Umar Johnson and his activities.  I have posted on D Derell’s videos because I question D Derell on the wisdom of giving money to Umar Johnson, denigrating and insulting people who disagree with him and/or Umar Johnson, insulting and attacking people for what he believes are their sexual preferences, assessing the state of people’s marriages whom he’s never met, claiming he knows negative information about the dating life, sex life, educational level, family relationships, and personal appearance of people he doesn’t know and has never met, while showing his face on a publicly accessible forum such as YouTube, given that he is a licensed professional counselor.

Firstly, Dempsey Spears/D Derell says that he agrees with Umar Johnson that 10% of Black boys need to be murdered in order to “save” the Black community.  The video is linked below.

Because I disagree with him on his assessment of Umar Johnson, because I question the judiciousness of his tendency to denigrate and insult people, because I question him on the wisdom of doing and saying these things online, in some cases, in his office, while showing his face, because I write blogs expressing my disagreement, and because I openly question the D Derell’s judgment in doing these things openly while showing his face, in defense of Umar Johnson, Dempsey Spears saw fit to attack me personally and recklessly.

Dempsey Spears/D Derell seems to make a habit of posting pictures of people and making derogatory statements about them when they don’t agree with the assessments that he makes public.  For example, there is a YouTube person who calls herself Anti Afro Svengalis.  Dempsey Spears/D Derell thinks that Anti Afro Svengalis’ real name is Andrea Stewart.  The link to the video is below.

Here, Dempsey Spears/D Derell makes the following claims about the person in the picture who he believes is Anti Afro Svengalis.
  1. Looks demented with a wicked smile and eyes
  2. Talks negatively about her appearance as “racially ambiguous”
  3. Speaks negatively about her appearance
  4. Calls her “psycho”
  5. Calls her obsessed and crazy supposedly based on conversations he’s had with people she knows
  6. Calls her a lesbian, although he’s never met her and says she is a lesbian because she is unattractive to men
  7. Claims that she wants revenge regarding Umar Johnson
  8. Calls her a liar
  9. Claims she is described by her colleagues as vile, disgusting, and despicable
  10. Claims that she embellishes her professional knowledge to provide legal advice
  11. Claims she needs therapy and medication
The person pictured in the video is not the person who calls herself Anti Afro Svengalis.

Subsequently, Dempsey Spears/D Derell made a video about a Reverend Gerald Palmer.  The video is linked below.

In this video Dempsey Spears/D Derell says about Reverend Gerald Palmer, in summary:
  1. Down-low gay man
  2. Deceiver of the cloth
  3. Pretending to be one thing at home but in real life, he's something else (How would Dempsey Spears know this)?
  4. A man who isn't happy with who he really is (How would Dempsey Spears know this)?
  5. Cape, support and cuddles those who have the same issues as he does
  6. Hates the fact that he loves the same sex (How would Dempsey Spears know this)?
  7. Hiding who he really is by marrying and having children
  8. Didn't enjoy sex with his wife (How would Dempsey Spears know this)?
  9. Hates being Black (How would Dempsey Spears know this)?
  10. Lusts after Umar Johnson and is upset because Umar Johnson won't "engage" with him
  11. "Turned on" by Dempsey Spears and "wants" him
When I, as Black Anonymous, questioned the wisdom of making such public statements, Dempey Spears/D Derell threatened me.

In fact, I was next.  Firstly, Dempsey Spears/D Derell believes my name is Nichole.  It is not.  Secondly, he has made a video with a picture of a person who he believes is Nichole.  This person is not me and I don’t know who this person is.  In fact, I am concerned for the safety of this person, who may not even know who Dempsey Spears/D Derell is.

The video stayed up for a day or so and was subsequently taken down because it violates YouTube’s policy on harassment and bullying.  However, I have a copy of the video.  In this video he says “Nichole” is:
  1. Cute but evil
  2. Related to Andrea Stewart
  3. Says horrible things about him
  4. Naughty little girl
  5. Needs a spanking
  6. Young and foolish
  7. Looks like she’s lost and easy manipulated
  8. Looks like she’s had “niggas run through her
  9. Mad because no one wanted to marry her

I asked him if he knew that what he was doing was doxing.  His response is below.

This video was taken down by YouTube because it violates YouTube's policy on harassment and bullying.

No harassment and no bullying

Please, I believe that this conduct online is unfitting of a licensed professional counselor, even if he is using a different name.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Remember my fellow Anti Fraud Warriors, I have taken time to find out from which entities Dempsey Spears gets insurance payments for his services.  I have also gathered pertinent information related to Dempsey Spears/D Derell and his YouTube activities.

Contact me if you need any of this information.

Thank you.

On that note, I'd like to quote a YouTuber called Rhee Thorn responding to another video Dempsey Spears made public to disparage the Rev. Gerald Palmer:
D Derell you cannot possibly be this naive?  As a professional, I simply cannot even begin to wrap my head around what you're doing. Think about it. In 2019, what professional in their right mind would get on social media identifying their face, name, professional licence, place of business; and RECORD the statements that you make. Right, wrong, or indifferent; and irrespective of whether one agrees with your statements - the comments you've recorded are extremely controversial at the very least. We live in the age of outrage/cancel culture. You could not have reasonably thought that your business would not be negatively impacted by your social media presence. You often boast (as you should), in regards to having your own practice; and employing other professionals. Particularly Black professionals - which is absolutely commendable, and a fact you should definitely be proud of. With that accomplishment comes a phenomenal responsibility to not only those you treat; but those you employ. It's my opinion, that your professional responsibilities outweigh your personal interest to record YouTube videos and express your personal opinions. Particularly opinions that are very capable of negatively impacting your business, your livelihood, and the livelihood of others. I think the exercise of a bit more wisdom is needed here. Unless the benefits of your social media presence, outweigh the risks towards your practice, professional licence, the people you treat, and the people you employ.

Well said, Rhee Thorn.

I say, let the chips fall where they may.
